I am interested in deepening my depictions of the various forms of intimacy humans have with other beings, be they friends, lovers, plants, or the elements, through photography and sculpture. Touch is critical to this, from sunlight warming skin to hands tracing mushrooms to friends feeding one another. I am inspired by the ethos of queer nature, a collective imagining of how we might reorient our attention towards a diversity of relations.
The work serves as an intervention and crafts alternative realities, visualizing what it means to be alive and connected despite living through a pandemic and looming environmental catastrophe. The friends in the images model necessary intimacies through generosity and affection. In the wake of uncertainty, I hope the work encourages people to soften their shoulders and smile.
